Remy Ma has renamed an upcoming film tied to her streaming platform after facing legal pressure from Rick Ross over its original title and promotional materials.

The movie was initially titled The Biggest Boss, a name closely associated with Rick Ross’ brand and identity, which traces back to his 2008 record “The Boss.” Ross’ legal team issued a cease-and-desist letter in late February, arguing that the title, along with elements used in the film’s trailer, created a strong likelihood that audiences would assume he was involved in or had approved the project.

The dispute also extends to the storyline itself. The film follows a prison guard who transitions into a rap career, a narrative that closely reflects Ross’ own background as a former correctional officer before entering the music industry. That connection was reinforced in the original trailer, which featured Ross’ music, further strengthening the association between the film and his personal story.

Ross’ attorney stated that the use of both the name and the music risked misleading viewers while also benefiting from Ross’ brand without authorization. The letter raised concerns around trademark usage, copyright infringement, and deceptive business practices, indicating that the issue was not limited to branding alone but also included how the project was being marketed and positioned.

Following the notice, Remy Ma’s platform removed the original trailer and released an updated version of the film under a new title, The C.O., with Ross’ music no longer included. The changes directly address the elements identified in the complaint, particularly the title and audio usage that were central to the legal concerns.

The cease-and-desist, however, also called for a complete halt to production and any planned release of the film, leaving open the possibility that further action could follow if those broader demands are not met. It remains unclear whether the revisions made so far will resolve the dispute or if additional steps will be required.

The situation reflects a broader issue within entertainment, where projects that draw heavily from real-life figures can move into legally sensitive territory when branding, identity, and recognizable elements are closely mirrored.
